Dental laboratories make crowns, bridges, veneers, implant prosthetics, dentures, orthodontic appliances and night guards for dentists and clinics. The main customer is the dentist, who sends a scan, impression or photos per case and asks the unit price, shade, material (zirconia, E.max, PFM) and turnaround, and wants a courier to collect the case. In some markets patients also write in about denture repair or relining. Every case is a custom job order with a due date, so the assistant completes a case intake (work type, tooth numbers, shade, material, impression type, files, required date, pickup) and never gives a final price, a firm due date or any treatment opinion. In many markets a lab works on a patient's case only on a dentist's prescription.
